Flu Season Approaching

APS and the School Health Bureau remind parents that flu season is fast approaching and that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends a yearly flu vaccine for children ages six (6) months through age 18 as the first and most important step in protecting against serious influenza infection.

Flu season runs from late November through March. Symptoms of influenza can include fever, cough, headache, extreme tiredness, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, and muscle aches, lasting up to 10 days.

Taking preventive steps can help keep students, their family and friends, and the community flu free. Preventive steps include:

  • Get a flu vaccine;
  • Wash your hands;
  • Cover your cough; and
  • Stay at home when sick

To get a flu shot parents should, ask their primary healthcare provider for a flu shot, or check any of the community resources listed below for flu clinics.
