School counselors provide support and assistance to students as they navigate critical and emergency situations. Crisis response includes intervention and follow-up to the immediate needs and is designed to prevent the situation from becoming more severe. Crisis counseling is short term and temporary in nature. When necessary, referrals are made to appropriate community resources. Dr. McCormac chairs Nottingham's Crisis Counseling Team. The team meets twice a year to plan how to handle mental health emergencies. If a crisis occurs the school counselor will coordinate the response within the school and ask for help from other student services staff from Arlington County as needed.
