The nominee must exemplify a personal character worthy of emulation by current and future students.

  • World Languages Credit by Exam & Seal of Biliteracy

Students with proficiency and fluency in a language other than English are encouraged to participate in the APS Credit by Exam program. Based on performance on the exam, students can earn up to four high school credits. There will be two testing dates: Friday, December 5th in the afternoon at Kenmore and Monday, February 1st in the morning at Wakefield. Exams are available in most every language.

Students can register themselves or with their counselors via this Google Form up to three weeks before the testing dates.

Students who are proficient in Tigrinya in grades 7-12, are encouraged to register by October 28th.  This exam will be on November 12th. Please see your counselor ASAP if interested.

The Seal of Biliteracy is new to the state of Virginia in SY2015-16 and will allow students who demonstrate proficiency in English (via successful completion of the 11th Grade Reading and Writing SOL exam) and another language (via demonstration of the Intermediate-Mid level of proficiency on a nationally-normed exam) to earn a special seal for their diploma and transcript.  Participation in the Credit by Exam is a direct avenue to earning the Seal of Biliteracy.  The VDOE website has information about this new endeavor.

For more information about either program, please see our website: apsva.us/worldlanguages and/or contact the World Languages Office at: 703-228-6097.
