At Tuckahoe, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/High Intensity Language Training (HILT) comprises a competency-based program to teach English and academic content to English Language Learners at the elementary school level. The program concentrates on the development of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking skills. It integrates the teaching of language with content area instruction in mathematics, science and social studies.
ESOL/HILT instruction is a pull out or in-class support program for students in kindergarten through grade five.
