(Professional Related Intern/Mentorship Experience)
PRIME, an internship program for rising juniors and seniors, is designed to provide gifted students with unpaid internships in professional organizations related to their fields of interest. Students are assigned to mentors; this allows them to gain first-hand knowledge and skills required in the professional world. Students will be involved in all aspects of the career they explore, including the opportunity to sample higher-level functions of the occupation. By working closely with mentors, students become familiar with the realities of the world of work, as well as the necessary traits for the career area.
This program is only offered during the summer months. Interns earn one credit for 140 hours. Pass/Fail grades are given. Summer PRIME students will also earn one college credit for NOVA's SDV100: College Success Skills course. Students and mentors negotiate details of the internship. Interns must be sixteen years of age, available for all four weeks of the program, and able to provide their own transportation. Public transportation is not always available to work sites. The application deadline for the summer 2016 program is December 18th.
Interested applicants should contact their gifted resource teacher, guidance counselor or PRIME coordinator, and Arlington Career Center Assistant Principal, Georganna Schell at 703.228.5742. Please email questions to: email@example.com.
