P.R.I.M.E. (Professional Related Intern/Mentorship Experience)
PRIME, an internship program for gifted juniors and seniors, is designed to provide high schools students with an opportunity to be placed as unpaid interns in professional organizations that are related to their fields of interest. Students will be assigned to a mentor. This allows them to gain first-hand knowledge and skills required in the professional world. Students will function in leadership and decision-making processes. By working closely with the mentor, students will become familiar with the realities of the world of work, as well as the necessary traits for the career area.
This program may be taken either during the school year or summer months. Interns earn ½ credit for 70 contact hours and 1 credit for 140 hours. Pass/Fail grades are given. Students and mentors negotiate details of the internship. Interns must be sixteen years of age and able to provide their own transportation. Public transportation is not always available to work sites. The application deadline for this program is December 20th.
Interested applicants should contact their gifted teacher, guidance counselor or PRIME coordinator (and Assistant Principal) Jeannette Allen at the Career Center at 703-228-5741. Please email questions to: prime@apsva.us.
