As the Instructional Tech Coordinator at Gunston, my goal is to help create an environment in which learning is individualized to the needs and interests of every child in our school. The APS personalized device initiative is a game-changing opportunity for our students to learn the way that works best for them. I will work closely with our teachers and staff to develop cutting-edge, collaborative, and authentic approaches to using iPads and technology in the classroom. I will also work with students in becoming responsible, collaborative, and innovative digital citizens. Through working together as a learning community at Gunston, we will leverage the power of technology and transform our students to become leaders of tomorrow.
I am a former upper elementary teacher and most recently taught fifth grade at Abingdon Elementary School in Arlington where I piloted a 1:1 iPad classroom for two years. Through this pilot, I was able to pioneer innovative learning approaches that have opened new doors for diverse learners, including second language learners, students with disabilities, and gifted students. My experiences have led me to write, present, and lead workshops on technology integration for literacy and math classrooms both within our district and nationally. I currently hold a B.A. in Education and a B.A. in Music (piano) from Furman University, as well as a Masters in Integration of Technology in Schools from George Mason University. Most recently, I was awarded Apple Distinguished Educator for the class of 2015. I am thrilled and eager for this opportunity to take my experiences and contribute to the successes of our students at Gunston!
