5th Grade

Meet The Fifth Grade Team

5th Grade

Patrick Carmack

Hi everyone, my name is Patrick Carmack.  I am a 5th Grade teacher and I am super excited about the upcoming school year!  I've lived and worked in Virginia for most of my life and recently moved to Arlington.  I just got married to my beautiful wife Maggie and we have a crazy little dog named Zero.  I grew up in Springfield, VA and attended Newington Forest and Hayfield for elementary and middle school.  I then made my commute a little further traveling to Washington, D.C. everyday attending Gonzaga High School (Go Eagles!).  I got my teaching degree from Widener University in Chester, PA and received my Master's degree from George Mason University.  I grew up playing ice hockey in New York and still currently play at Kettler on the weekends.  I also started playing lacrosse when I was in 4th grade and played in both high school and college.  I really enjoy traveling to places I've never been and jumping in any ocean during the summer.  I'm so glad to be at Barrett and look forward to a great year!

Jean Sanders

My name is Mrs. Sanders, and I am so excited to be here at Barrett!  More importantly, I am thrilled to be your teacher!  I want to know all about you, but first I’ll tell you a little about myself.  I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and I’m the middle child with 2 older siblings and 2 younger siblings. I did my undergraduate course work at the University of North Texas and graduate work at the University of Texas at Arlington.  I am married to a fabulous man named Shane, and we have a son who is two, named Nicolas.

I have taught second through fifth grades, and this will be my 14th year of teaching. Fifth grade is a very important year, as your child will be making the transition into middle school next year, so we will be working on maturing as readers and writers, as well as becoming mathematicians and scientists.  I can already tell that this school year is going to be filled with enthusiasm and lots of learning!
