Meet The Fifth Grade Team
Hi everyone, my
name is Patrick Carmack. I am a 5th Grade teacher and I am super excited
about the upcoming school year! I've lived and worked in Virginia for most of my life and recently moved to Arlington. I just
got married to my beautiful wife Maggie and we have a crazy little dog named
Zero. I grew up in Springfield, VA and
Forest and Hayfield for
elementary and middle school. I then made my commute a little further
traveling to Washington, D.C.
everyday attending Gonzaga
High School (Go Eagles!).
I got my teaching degree from Widener
University in Chester,
PA and received my Master's degree from George Mason
University. I grew
up playing ice hockey in New York
and still currently play at Kettler on the weekends. I also started
playing lacrosse when I was in 4th grade and played in both high school and
college. I really enjoy traveling to places I've never been and jumping
in any ocean during the summer. I'm so glad to be at Barrett and look
forward to a great year!
name is Mrs. Sanders, and I am so excited to be here at Barrett! More importantly, I am thrilled to be your
teacher! I want to know all about you,
but first I’ll tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas,
and I’m the middle child with 2 older siblings and 2 younger siblings. I did my
undergraduate course work at the University of North Texas and graduate work at
the University of Texas at Arlington. I am married to a fabulous man named
Shane, and we have a son who is two, named Nicolas.
I have taught second through fifth
grades, and this will be my 14th year of teaching. Fifth grade is a very
important year, as your child will be making the transition into middle school next year, so we will be working on maturing as readers and writers, as well as
becoming mathematicians and scientists. I can already tell that this school
year is going to be filled with enthusiasm and lots of learning!
I am the fifth grade resource teacher at Barrett and have worked with students in grades 2 - 5 since 2001. I received my bachelors in Psychology and Economics from the University of Maryland and then went on to graduate school for a teaching degree, receiving my masters in teaching in 1997 from Goucher College. Go Gophers! I spent my first four years teaching at Garfield Elem. in Fairfax working with students in grades three through six. Then came the day when I saw a job posting at Barrett and I was excited to work in my own backyard. Since that day I have loved working with Barrett's diverse and warm community. This past year I completed a second masters program in School Administration and hope to put my degree to work expanding our school's collaborative culture to respond to the needs of all students. I am also honored to be the patrol sponsor and look forward to a super safe year. I enjoy reading both fiction and nonfiction books about similar subject matter to gain a deeper understanding, learning anything of interest and teaching anyone whose willing to listen. Last, I love sports both real and fantasy and look forward to dethroning the Flores and Godwin families in the year to come!
