The third grade is an exciting year! Here at Glebe, third grade students participate in learning experiences that encourage discovery-based learning. Throughout the year, third graders will take part in challenging units, hands-on learning centers, independent projects, and exciting field trips. All of these experiences are aimed at helping students enrich and broaden their understandings as they make cross-curricular connections.
The third grade year is such a big year in your child's Elementary school career. Students become much more independent this year as they will be expected to expand their previous knowledge in order to develop new conceptual understandings. Students will engage in content-based activities such as place value, multiplication, division, data, probability, and geometry in Math. In Language Arts, students will engage in word study, learn valuable reading strategies, participate in guided reading sessions, and develop their writing using tried and true developmental writing methods. As Scientists, students will learn about explorers, habitats, space, simple machines, and the water cycle. In Social Studies, students will learn about cultures, economics, and geography.
We look forward to an awesome school year with you!

Please wear appropriate shoes on the days you have P.E.
MySchoolBuck: Good nutrition is critical for student success. The Food Services menus are all online and you can set up an online payment account through MySchoolBucks for each student. We encourage you to plan for this, especially breakfast, so your child has a nutritious meal and is ready to learn every day.
APS App: Download the free APS mobile app for smartphones and mobile devices. The app is customizable to your school and preferences, and will provide you with a portable link to news, calendars, sports scores and school directories. It will also give you easy access to APS services like APS websites, school menus, MySchoolBucks, and the Extended Day Portal. To download the APS App, just visit your App store and search for “Arlington Public Schools.” We know our families are very busy, and we hope this tool will provide families with the ability to stay connected.
Join the PTA: Family engagement is critical to student success, and our PTA plays a critical role in supporting our students and our instructional programs. It’s also a great network of parents and teachers for your school family. Please consider joining the PTA this year.
