Administration

Dr. Marjorie Myers, Principal
Principal

Thank you for your interest in Key School ~ Escuela Key.

My name is Marjorie L. Myers, and I have been the principal of Key since 1995.  I am a native speaker of English, but also consider myself to be bilingual with Spanish being my second language.  I owe my being bilingual to our Air Force family's tour of duty in Madrid, Spain where my elementary years were spent in a total Spanish setting at Liceo Anglo Español.  I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Florida where I majored in Spanish and spent my junior year abroad in Madrid with a New York University program.

Since 1972 I have taught Spanish and English as a Second language at the elementary, junior high, high school, adult education, community college, and university levels, and have done teacher training in classroom management and second language acquisition.  I've worked in Gainesville, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia, Venezuela and Washington, DC.

Bechtel Corporation hired me to run a small two-room K-12 school for English speaking children of engineers in  the Andes Mountains of Venezuela.  After two and one half wonderful years in South America, I came to Washington, DC in  1983.  I was granted a Title VII scholarship to study Bilingual and Multicultural Education at George Mason University which I completed with an M.A. in 1985.  From there I attended Georgetown University in Applied Linguistics.  In 2009, I received my Ed.D. in Bilingual Special Education from George Washington University.  (See link below for my Dissertation)

My administrative positions in Washington, DC included being the coordinator for Instruction and Programs for language minority students in DC Public Schools; the assistant principal at Cardozo High School; and the principal of H.D. Cooke Elementary School in Adams Morgan.

The greatest position yet has been as the principal of Key School ~ Escuela Key.  The dedication and professionalism of the staff, the parents and the school system have made this the most rewarding experience of all.  I look forward to many successful years as the principal of this internationally recognized two-way Spanish  Immersion School.
