State regulations require all students to attend classes unless they are excused in writing by a parent, guardian, or school official. The new federal law, No Child Left Behind states that schools must have 98% attendance rates. It is very important that you child attend school every day and that s/he arrive for school on time 15 to 20 minutes before start time 8:40 a.m. Any time your child is absent, you must let the school office know immediately either by leaving a message on the Key School Hotline (703) 228-4212, or by calling the office directly. When you make your call, please give the following information: 1) child's name; 2) teacher's name; 3) reason for the absence; and 4) approximate number of days you expect your child to be out of school. When your child returns to school, please send a written note explaining the reason for the absence. If we do not receive this note, it will be an unexcused absence.
It is very important that your child come to school on time everyday. Students should be seated and ready for the Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence at exactly 9:00 a.m.
