APS and the Environment

Environmental Teaching in the Classroom

Science Curriculum

As part of Arlington Public Schools' program of studies, students develop an understanding of how humans affect the ecosystems in a variety of ways. For example, the Science Standards of Learning for Virginia's Public Schools contains a “Resource” strand for K-6 students which is incorporated in and reinforced by our local curricula.

Social Studies Curriculum

As part of Arlington Public Schools' social studies program, students develop a fundamental understanding of society's interplay with the natural environment.  This includes environmental impacts on local, regional and global scales through the study of concepts related to physical, economic, cultural, urban, political, historical and environmental geography.
