School and Community Relations 

 
Community flyer The Department of School and Community Relations is responsible for media relations; community outreach; public information; electronic, broadcast and social media; the Volunteer and Partners in Education Program; and supervision of AETV, the APS Materials Production Center and the APS Print Shop.
 
 
The department’s primary focus is to enhance communications within Arlington Public Schools and between schools and the Arlington community.

Services

Yellow bullet  Produce wide rage of publications, including informational brochures
Yellow bullet  Provide editorial and creative support for print, electronic and TV/video communications and maintain relationships with local media to support communications about APS programs and services to the community.
Yellow bullet  Distribute announcements to media, parents and the local community about news, events and activities
Yellow bullet  Plan, organize and promote countywide celebrations and recognitions to showcase the work and accomplishments of the school division.
Yellow bullet  Organize informational events to inform parents and citizens about the school system
Yellow bullet  Help families research and learn about the school system
Yellow bullet  Maintain the APS website
Yellow bullet  Serve as a liaison with the Arlington community to connect residents, businesses, community groups and civic organizations with schools to recruit volunteers and partners in support of the education of our students.
Yellow bullet  Respond to all Freedom of Information Act requests
Yellow bullet  Manage and coordinate family engagement and educational programs offered through the APS Parent Academy
Yellow bullet  Provide guidance, training and support to schools and departments for strategic communications to ensure effective interaction and dialogue with internal and external audiences.
Yellow bullet  Support departments as they work to engage the community and build effective relations with parents and the community so that they know about and actively support the education of our students
Yellow bullet  Provide management, support and training for effective e-communications through the APS website, APS School Talk and other electronic services, including social media, and the APS App.
Yellow bullet  Collaborate with schools and departments to develop communication strategies to inform parents and the community about programs, services, special projects and new initiatives to serve APS students and the community.
Yellow bullet  Manage emergency communications, utilizing effective strategies to update the APS community about changes in operations due to local, regional or national emergencies.
Yellow bullet  Maintain communications through AETV cable programming, broadcast and video production services, and regular programming including APS Snapshots, Green Scene and the School Board meetings.
