School Board Elects New Leadership

During its annual organizational meeting on July 1, the Arlington School Board unanimously elected James Lander as Chair and Emma Violand-Sanchez as Vice Chair for the 2014-15 school year. Their terms begin immediately and will expire in June 2015. (More)

More Seats for Students School Board Adopts 2015-24 CIP

The School Board approved its FY 2015-24 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) at last night’s meeting. The 10-year CIP includes funding that focuses on the areas of most critical need including elementary seats in the southern part of the County, middle school seats in the northern part of the County, high school seats later in the 10-year planning horizon, and continued investment in maintenance of APS facilities. APS’s Pat Murphy Named Virginia Superintendent of the Year

Dr. Patrick K. Murphy, Superintendent of Arlington County Schools, was named Virginia’s Superintendent of the Year at the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) Annual Awards Banquet on Tuesday evening in Roanoke. (More)

APS Snapshots Drew’s Sports Reading Club Featured on Snapshots

In this week's episode, Snapshots joins Drew Model School’s Sports Reading Club as they host former Washington Redskin Raleigh McKenzie. Fourth grade boys have been reading regularly since February and as a reward, the APS offices of Title I and Minority Achievement reached out to McKenzie to come read and eat lunch with students.
