School Board Acts to Support Historic Designation of Stratford
At last night’s meeting, the School Board acted to support historic designation of the Stratford Site, based on design guidelines and designation language for the site developed collaboratively by County Historic Preservation Program and APS staff. Stratford is the location where the integration of schools first occurred in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The proposed guidelines honor the historical significance of the site, and balance the importance of architectural preservation with the renovations that are being planned to expand the school building to accommodate growing enrollment. The County Board will consider the guidance for approval in June.

The School Counselor and Student Mental Health
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. School counselors recognize and respond to the need for mental health and behavioral prevention, early intervention and crisis services that promote psychosocial wellness and development for all students. School counselors are prepared to address barriers and to assess ways to maximize students’ success in schools, communities and their family structure by offering education, prevention, and crisis and short-term intervention until the student is connected with available community resources. Join the conversation using hashtag #BeAwareCare.
