Burr-hello October,
The weather has changed outside and the classroom is cool. Please be sure to have your child bring a sweater to class.
Science: We began our science unit of study on Animal and Plant Adaptations. We learned the meaning of adaptation and how it applies to animal behavior. We are taking notes on words to remember. Important words to know are: mimicry, hibernation, migration and camouflage. We investigated these concepts in centers with books, Brainpop and videos. Ask your child about them.
Math: We discovered strategies for addition of three digit numbers. We used proof drawings to show our thinking. Our addition test will be on Tuesday. Next, we will move onto subtraction. Please review subtraction facts with your child at home.
Reading: We are using preview and predict strategies to help comprehend our reading stories. Most groups are reading a chapter book that we respond to in our notebook. Also, we read Time Magazine For Kids and National Geographic to gain an understanding of our world.
Writing: We are learning to write letters and the proper format of a friendly letter. Students will write a friendly letter Wednesday. It will be a graded assignment.
