COUNTYWIDE EVENTS
Free Open House at the Outdoor Lab. On Sunday, May 20 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. come relax, fish, hike, explore the animal lab, admire the new spring foliage, investigate a stream, breathe fresh country air, roast hot dogs and cook s’mores. Noted Civil War historians will discuss the role that the Outdoor Lab property, especially Glasscock Gap, played during the Civil War, with emphasis on the campaigns of John S. Mosby and J.E.B. Stuart.

The Outdoor Lab provides hands-on outdoor environmental education opportunities to learn about animals, science, outdoor skills, arts, and humanities in a natural setting, including over 200 acres of forests, fields and hills, a spring-fed stream, a pond, and nature hiking trails.

Directions: The lab is roughly 35 miles and takes approximately 45 minutes. It is west of Arlington, just a few miles off I-66. Take I-66 West about 26 miles to Exit 40–Haymarket. At the traffic light at the top of the exit ramp turn left onto Route 15 South. At the 2nd traffic light turn right onto Route 55 West. After about 3.5 miles turn left onto Beverly's Mill Rd. (Route 600). After 1.4 miles turn right into the new driveway—look for a sign that says "Outdoor Lab." Parking is free. No pets please. http://www.outdoorlab.org.
