School Board Appoints New Assistant Superintendent of HR, Principal of Ashlawn and Assistant Principal of W-L

Corey Dotson was appointed as Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources. His appointment begins Sept. 16, 2024.

Mr. Dotson is an accomplished HR professional with extensive experience in the education sector. Currently serving on the executive leadership team as the chief talent officer, for Cambridge Public Schools, he provides visionary leadership to optimize the district’s recruitment, retention, and development of top talent.  Mr. Dotson has a proven track record of enhancing workforce diversity, improving processes, building rapport with principals and other staff throughout the district, negotiating collective bargaining agreements and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.

Prior to his current role, he served in several key positions at Arlington Public Schools, including director of talent acquisition and management, talent acquisition coordinator, and employment specialist.  In these roles, he led the development and implementation of district-wide recruitment and retention programs for licensed staff, support staff and substitutes.

Additionally, he gained experience as a human capital specialist, at Baltimore City Public Schools.  Mr. Dotson holds a master’s degree in human resources management from The Catholic University of America and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Southern University.  Also, he is a certified Society of Human Resources Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).

Meghan Neary was appointed as the new Principal, Ashlawn Elementary School. Her appointment begins August 5, 2024.   

From an early age growing up in rural upstate New York, Ms. Neary always knew she wanted to be an educator.  She attended The College at Brockport, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree as a curriculum specialist.  In 2015, she earned her second master’s degree in educational leadership from Columbia University.  Ms. Neary began her career as a special education teacher and later a classroom teacher, at Carlin Springs Elementary School.  Also, she served as the special education lead teacher and instructional lead teacher, while also a mentor to new teachers each year.

From 2017 to 2023, Ms. Neary served as assistant principal, at Ashlawn Elementary School, where she continued her journey as a school leader.  At Ashlawn, she built strong trusting relationships with students, staff, and families.  Together, the school community found innovative approaches to instruction and worked collaboratively to best meet the needs of all students.  This past school year, she transitioned to a role as math interventionist, at Barcroft Elementary School.  Ms. Neary is passionate about meeting the unique needs of every student while fostering a love for learning and empowering future global citizens.

She is committed to creating a welcoming, fun, and safe environment where all staff, students, and families feel valued and supported.  Ms. Neary is excited to return to Ashlawn and continue the great work that is being done in this community.

Ms. Juanice Jenkins was appointed as Assistant Principal, Washington-Liberty High School, effective August 5, 2024.

Ms. Jenkins has a long family history in Arlington County and is honored to continue that legacy by her service in Arlington Public Schools (APS).  She is a proud graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication, with a concentration in public relations.  Ms. Jenkins has served APS for the past 15 years in several capacities.

In 2008, she began as an instructional assistant, at Dr. Charles Drew Elementary, in the Multi-Intervention Program for Autism (MIPA).  After completing her master’s degree in school counseling, from Marymount University, in 2016, she began her career as a school counselor, at Yorktown High School.  During her time at Yorktown, she was led to pursue educational leadership and completed her certification, at Longwood University, in 2019.  For the 2023-24 school year, Ms. Jenkins was excited to progress her skills in administration by becoming Yorktown’s first dean of students.  She is a dedicated lifelong learner and is skilled in strategic communication, program management, and collaborative leadership.  Ms. Jenkins’ vision is to serve her school community by establishing trust and relationships with all stakeholders.
