APS Celebrates School Library Month

April is School Library Month and April 7 – 13 is National Library Week. The National Library Week theme for 2024 is “Ready, Set, Library.”

As students go through the library doors, they discover so many possibilities. Libraries have spaces for independent reading, collaborative group work and space for whole classes to learn together. The library is a welcoming space for all students and is ready to meet the inquiry needs of each one.

Students go to the library to ask for reading suggestions from their library assistant and librarian. They go to work on a puzzle or another maker space activity with a friend. Students may go to read quietly. They go to participate in a book club. Students have many opportunities to engage in the library. As we “Ready, Set, Library” our goal is to ensure every child sees themselves in the library. This may be through book displays, author visits, or an activity. Each library includes all students in the space.

Students can go to the library for so many reasons and each time their library staff is there to welcome and engage with them and support their individual needs. We look forward to supporting students as they explore what the library has as we  “Ready! Set! Library!
