Celebrating APS All Stars: September 2024

APS takes pride in recognizing outstanding individuals who go above and beyond to support our students, staff and school community. The APS All Stars for September 2024 demonstrate exceptional dedication, creativity and commitment in their respective roles. Let’s celebrate the following honorees and their contributions!


Oswaldo Barahona – APS Facilities (Trades Center)

Oswaldo Barahona is the backbone of the APS Plant Operations Office, ensuring that our schools run smoothly. From transporting indoor and outdoor equipment to delivering gas and safety gear for custodians, Oswaldo’s role is critical to our daily operations. He works tirelessly to cover custodial shifts when needed, remove graffiti and even help with heavy tasks like transporting gym seal buckets. This summer, he supported the World Language department by moving boxes of textbooks to the Warehouse, all while maintaining his flexible, service-oriented approach. Oswaldo’s hard work and dedication make him a true APS All Star.


Mallary Hughes – Discovery Elementary School

At Discovery Elementary, Mrs. Mallary Hughes stands out for her cheerful, kind and intelligent approach to teaching. Having taught all three children of one APS family, she has left a lasting impression on each of them, showing how much she cares about her students. Her ability to connect with students, parents and colleagues creates a positive environment at Discovery. Mrs. Hughes brings joy to everyone she interacts with, even in stressful situations. Her exceptional character and commitment to her students make her an invaluable part of the Discovery team.


Maria “Silvina” Daulon Nunez – Arlington Community High School

Maria “Silvina” Daulon Nunez, the Facilities and Logistics Coordinator at Arlington Community High School, is a true asset to the school community. Silvina is organized, reliable and proactive, seamlessly managing a wide range of responsibilities. Whether it’s overseeing facilities or handling other duties, she takes on every challenge with minimal supervision and a positive attitude. Her intelligence, humor and willingness to assist students, families and staff have made her an indispensable part of ACHS. We are thrilled to recognize her as an APS All Star.


Courtney Hines – Carlin Springs Elementary School

Ms. Courtney Hines has been a dedicated SPED teacher and SPED Lead at Carlin Springs Elementary for many years, and her work with some of the most challenging students stands out. With her strong sense of empathy and understanding, she has created a space where students feel safe and supported. Many students under her care have seen significant behavioral improvements, thanks to her compassionate approach. Ms. Hines also provides leadership and guidance to her fellow SPED teachers, helping them navigate IEPs and goal-setting. Her hard work and dedication make her a true APS All Star.


Kip Malinosky – Jefferson Middle School

At Jefferson Middle School, Mr. Kip Malinosky has become an essential resource for his colleagues. As the IB Coordinator, he works tirelessly to simplify teachers’ tasks, from managing the IB gradebook to integrating interdisciplinary learning into their lesson plans. His hardworking, enthusiastic nature has earned him the respect of his peers, and his commitment to the International Baccalaureate program helps students and staff fully embrace the IB philosophy. Kip’s dedication to improving both teacher and student experiences makes him a well-deserved APS All Star.
